Strange! "Infected files" disappeared!
« on: March 14, 2013, 09:23:38 PM »
I was informed by my ISP that there have been malicious attacks coming from my family's machines (4 computers, 2 mobile devices in total), a product of the Zeus trojan. So I ran avast full scan on my computer and was shocked to see it pop up with 58 infected files. However, before the full scan was completed my computer shut down for some reason (overheating?). After I rebooted the computer, which strangely opened with a windows update screen, I ran another full scan and avast detected no viruses. I find this very suspicious. I also tried Norton Power Eraser, and it turned up with nothing.

What should I do?

As windows was updating during the scan Avast probably picked those files up as they were being shifted around

Why does your ISP think you have zeus ?

Download OTL  to your Desktop
Secondary link
  • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.

  • Select All Users
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in
netsvcs
BASESERVICES
%SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
/md5start
services.*
explorer.exe
winlogon.exe
Userinit.exe
svchost.exe
winsock.*
/md5stop
CREATERESTOREPOINT

  • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
    • Attach both logs
