Regarding PUP
« on: April 09, 2013, 04:01:47 PM »
I use Avast with Super Antispyware, and I was doing some research on PUP and ran across a site that had what seems to be a bunch of false information.  I just wanted to get some opinions on the information that was given.  Here is what was the site gave:

What is a pup virus?
Answer:
PUP stands for potentially unwanted program (''PUP).

These are usually spyware or other programs you download from the internet

You need to run these 5 essential steps to remove all the spyware on your computer.

1. Run Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

2. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

3. Run the anti spyware removal programs spybot

4 Run Superantispyware

5. Run a complete scan with free curing utility Dr.Web CureIt!
(per wiki.answers.com)

Now, my thoughts are -- do you really have to have 5 different programs to assist in a multi-layered defense on your laptop.  I think this is way overboard.  What are your thoughts?

For a PUP that is total overkill..   Either use AdwCleaner and Avast browser cleanup.  Or AdwCleaner and ask for help here to remove any remnants  ;D
