Remnants of Avast 6,7 and 8?
« on: November 03, 2013, 08:45:47 PM »
Currently have Avast! free 2014.9.0.2007

I updated from v 8 via the UI to the above version.

When I run CCleaner, it shows remnants? from version 6, 7 and 8.  When I clean them up in CCleaner, next time they show again.  What is the best course of action?  Use an uninstaller for the previous versions or whatever you suggest.  If recommended to use an uninstaller for these old versions, which one would be best?  I can leave them remnants alone if need be.  Below is a pic to show what I mean.

follow instructions  Uninstall Utility http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility

avast! Cleanup Tool http://www.rejzor.tk/

Strange how they are both 79KB.

I think that part of the reason is ccleaner is dumb, since the folder locations are the same how does it determine which are 6, 7 or 8 or 9 for that matter (when they include avast 9).

Open the entry to see the details and post the full paths and files ?

Best course of action - Personally I wouldn't allow ccleaner to delete anything related to avast! even if these are logs the contents may be beneficial to the developers should you experience any problems.

Yup, this is a CCleaner error.

I recently done a clean install of my OS and installed Avast 9.0.2007 and CCleaner has both "Avast Antivirus 6" and "Avast Antivirus 8".

While I'm grateful for all the comments and suggestions, now I'm confused about what to do next due the difference of opinions.  Here are the paths of the 2 in question.  Hopefully these 2 pics will be useful.

and

Perhaps I should just untick the boxes in CCleaner for Avast to clean up?

You need to uncheck in ccleaner.

I agree with DavidR and Alikhan that it must be a CCleaner error. I too have avast! 6 and 8 detected by CCleaner and not avast! 9 in Applications > Utilities

I would not let CCleaner clean my avast! files either.

That confirms it, a ccleaner screw up, double or possibly triple counting in the future, as and when avast 9 is added to ccleaner.

Personally this ccleaner screw up is a lessor concern to me than the deletion of avast information that may in the future be useful to both you and possibly the developers.

Thank you all very much who have contributed to this thread.  I have unticked the Avast! boxes in CCleaner and will leave it at that.
