yet another "Shortcut Virus" infection, Laptop + pendrives
« on: April 13, 2014, 09:05:49 AM »
I am yet another one who has suffered from the Shortcut virus,
almost the whole of my college's pendrives has it (either by the name of "fox.exe' or "task.exe"

I first saw this thread : http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=138715.45

but since it was advised there, why opening a new thread was a better idea, here it is.

whenever i insert an pendrive or any other flash memory device in my laptop the folders and all files turn to the shortcuts.
tried the "Shortcut Virus Remover" on the website with the same name, but it only disinfects the external drives, and the disinfection lasts for just a jiffy.

i performed the first three things (mentioned in this thread on my laptop. (AdwCleaner.exe , GMER , Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.
the log files are attached.

Thank you for posting your logs.  One of the malware removal specialists will review it and get back to you ASAP.  They are on different time zones.  In the meantime, do not use the USB drive on this or any other machine.  If you are connected to a network, disconnect this machine from the network and if possible communicate with the forum from a different machine but have access to the infected one.  They will give you directions for malware removal.  Thank you.

Hi there lets get to work

Download MCShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives

Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan

Then get the log which will be located under the logs tab on the main page

And post that
