Shortcut Virus infected my pen drive and possibly to laptop
« on: November 29, 2014, 10:59:33 PM »
Hi,

My pen drive was recently infected with some sort of shortcut virus and I'm not sure if my laptop was infected. Can anyone here help me to determine whether my laptop is infected? And, how to remove the virus from both laptop and pen drive? If possible, may I know why and how a pen drive and laptop could infected such virus?

Thanks you in advance.

Hi the first tool will check out the main system and USB drives, the second will run an analysis on the main computer

Download MCShield to your desktop and install
It will initially run a scan and show the result as a toaster by the system clock
Then in the control centre select scanner and tick unhide items on flash drives

Plug in the drive and McShield will start a scan

Then get the log which will be located under the logs tab on the main page

And post that

THEN

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click to run as administrator (XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File). When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Select  additions at the bottom
  • Press Scan button.

  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please attach both logs generated.

Hi  Essexboy,

Here's my txt files. But I wonder why my USB is clean after scanning through MC Shield? Is it possible my new antivirus program kill the shortcut virus?

Hi Pondus,

Nope, what I meant was how the virus is generated? Is it because of the downloads from websites and infecting the laptop?
