Avast detects malware in Windows pagefile
« on: December 04, 2014, 04:45:06 PM »
I have installed Windows 8.1 on another partition, while also using Windows 7.
When setting up Win 8.1 I noticed that Avast detects malware in Win 8.1 pagefile.sys
...I used a custom Windows ISO that includes the latest updates.

Then I downloaded the official Windows ISO from Microsoft's web just to be sure,
and again Avast detects malware in pagefile - when scanning the pagefile in use
Avast does not detect anything, however, if I copy the pagefile of the other system
to a new location malware is detected.

Can this be a false positive, as I already used 3 sources and in all pagefile is detected as infected.
I also compared the Windows 7 pagefile and it also shows as infected if scanned  on another location.

The "infected" pagefile has also been scanned with other antiviruses and malware detectors/removers
and all passed the file as clear.

In addition, in the last week or so, I have been getting numerous webshield pop-ups when visiting
web pages that have worked without problems before.

What is going on? I have been an Avast user for several years and this is the first time I have this kind of problems. Please helo.
