Problem With Avast
« on: December 22, 2014, 08:40:08 AM »
So today I turned on my old windows xp desktop as my laptop is in for repairs. The old  pc needed a lot of work. Had to uninstall a heap of unwanted programs, run a disk clean up and defragment. Once I did all this I noticed that avast hadn't updated since I turned it on. So I went in to the program and found its running version 6.0.1426 and wouldn't update. It was stuck on initializing...

So I downloaded a new version of the program and when trying to install I got this error everytime I tried.

I then thought okay maybe its got something to do with the older version being installed.
I went into Add or Remove Programs tried to uninstall it and this error popped up.

Not sure what to do now.. Any ideas?

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)..!!
-> http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11

Then:
1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.
