Avast keeps blocking harmful webpages or files
« on: January 18, 2015, 09:58:54 PM »
Hello guys,

I hope somebody can help me. On my desktop computer I have somehow contracted some kind of malware or virus. Avast blocks websites constantly on both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox broswers. An example is below:

I have ran full scans on avast and malware bytes but it hasn't fixed the issue at all. I have attached all recommended scan logs below.

It is my brother's computer so I am really worried. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much in advance. Warm regards,

Jon.

Hi there, first thing you must do is uninstall Chrome, you can re-install when we have finished

CAUTION :  This fix is only valid for this specific machine, using it on another may break your computer

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

CMD: bitsadmin /reset /allusers

Save this as fixlist.txt, in the same location as FRST.exe

Run FRST and press Fix
On completion a log will be generated please post that

THEN

Download and run farbar service scanner

Tick "All" options.
Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Hi essexboy, thank you very much for your attempts to help me. I'm not getting any 'avast is blocking harmful websites' popups any more but i'm still constantly getting the following popup from malwarebytes (see image).

Hi,

While Essexboy is offline I shall ask you a question.

Have you rebooted? FRST had issues with many of the files there that needed a reboot to solve. If you w=haven't rebooted, please do so asap, and report back MBAM Pop-ups. That file MBAM is complaining about was targeted by FRST.

Hi Michael/Alan!

Thanks for your input. Excuse my ignorance but by reboot, do you mean restart? If so then yes, and I have restarted it again just to be sure. Both times I have restarted, however, I have had the following popup on startup:

Warm regards,

Jon.

Could you now run this small programme and then follow it with a fresh FRST scan please

Download Eset service repair to your desktop
Run the programme and accept the elevation request
Once it has completed it will ask for a reboot, allow it to do so
After the reboot there will be a CC Support folder on the desktop
Open that and go to the logs folder there will be a report please post that

Hi, thanks again for all your efforts. After doing as you described, I am still getting the same unknown hardware popup but as long as I am rid of the virus then I am satisfied. Please find CC log attached (I think). I will attach new FRST scan once complete.

Warm regards,
Jon.

Subject to no further problems   :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset  System Restore points:

Remove tools

Download and run Delfix

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article

I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

If you do need to keep Java then download JavaRa
Run the programme and select  Remove Java Runtime.  Uninstall all versions of Java present
Once done then run it again and select Update Java runtime > Download and install Latest version

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

CryptoPrevent install this programme to lock down and prevent crypto ransome ware

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Unchecky

Click on the link above to be taken to Unchecky.com
click the very large Download button.
click Save
Click Open folder
Right click on the Unchecky_setup and choose to Run as Administrator
Once open click the Install button.
Then click on Finish
Unchecky is now installed and will help you keep unwanted check boxes unchecked, this is a fire and forget programme  ;)

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.
