Reference database of knowv viruses
« on: March 09, 2015, 02:33:23 PM »
Hi
Does anyone know how to access the Avast historical  reference database of known viruses, (the one that contains the names definitions and the effect of known viruses).

I've looked in most logical places but cant find any link.

Thanks

I doubt that any such data bank even exists. With thousands of new malware being produced daily it
would be a daunting task just to keep it updated.
Dell Inspiron, Win10x64--HP Envy Win10x64--Both systems Avast Free v17.9.2322, Comodo Firewall v8.2 w/D+, MalwareBytes v3.0, OpenDNS, Super Anti-Spyware, Spyware Blaster, MCShield, Unchecky, Vivaldi Browser and, various browser security tools.

"Look before you leap!" Use online scanners before you click on any link.

Thanks for all the replies.

I may be getting my products mixed up but I am sure that Avast used to have a database of known named viruses and Trojans, listed by name, each with a brief description of the impact/problem caused if your PC  was affected.

None of the databases suggested in the replies has that level of info?

Keep in mind that different vendors are giving malware different names.
With VGrep you can lookup how something is called by the different vendors.
