Run FireFox in safe-mode.
If that is working fine, it is very likely one of the add-ons you have installed that is causing the problem.

Yes just the Firefox plugin,helped a lot for me disabling,hope you get it sorted  :)

Disable HTTPS-scanning in the web shield.
Had the same problem intermittently for a while,disabling online security helped especially with web page opening speed.will try this as well thanks...
That disables your online protection and certainly isn't recommended.

The firefox plugin  shows ticks against web results and blocks companies trying to track you.

Avast has its own inbuild black list database I guess.

Not sure it disables online protection.
