QuickTime videos are pink !?
« on: February 04, 2006, 12:08:17 AM »
Mac are you still around here? I need some help...

Whenever i try to view basically ANY QT video i can play it fine but entire picture is colored in pink tint. It's like watching black and white TV in pink instead of grayscale...

Do you have any clue why is so? I tried latest QuickTime, i even tried QuickTime Alternative. No difference. I used Apple Trailers as "test".
I'm also using FFDShow filters but since i also tried without them resulting in same pink color i assume they aren't related.

Eh, what a stupid problem. It appears that QuickTime has problems with NVIDIA's Digital Vibrance (feature that makes colors more vibrant and rich).
Mac, can you report this incompatibility to Apple?

I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 128MB with drivers ForceWare 81.98 (WinXP 32bit) on Windows XP SP2 system. QuickTime is version 7.0.4.80.

When this happened to me I slowed down the hardware acceleration one notch and it cleared up.

Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Troubleshoot

Edit: Added path for clarity.

Rejzor when did this start? It sounds lite a problem with the Forceware drivers. did you recently upgrade your video card or drivers? Did you have this problem prior to the 81.98 update?

I will report the problem but I would also like to try and resolve your problem in the meantime

Can't say for sure. I was using ATi Radeon 9600 Pro before and i just switched back to NVIDIA not so long ago. ForceWare 81.98 are the latest and only official drivers that i'm using (which are also WHQL certified by MS). Can't say how it was before or how it may be with some beta ForceWare drivers...

Since Apple uses ATi Graphics Processors on most of their systems ATi support is generally better than nvidia.  I will ask a mac Genius on Sunday about your problem to see if he can shed any light (Remember I am only  a Mac Specialist) I run QT on my PC (Nvidia Geforce 2MX, Dual Intel Pentium III) with no problems  so it may be specifically related to your card driver

Just move this slider:

As soon as i move it a bit to the right i get that pink tint. If i move it all the way to th left (off) it's ok. If i remember i had Digital Vibrance even on GF2 MX (or was it GF4 Ti4200 hm) so check it out.

well i was wrong I have a Geforce 2GTS card and no I do not have the digital vibrence, however I can clearly see from reading the Apple discussion fourm that this is not an Isolated issue, others have the same problem (some are pink some green some purple) Apple has confirmed that it is an issue. Nvidia has been notified and should fix it in the next forceware release and Apple will fix it in the next quicktime release(7.0.5.xx) if it is a problem on their end but the general belief is that it is on nvidia's end

Well i don't know who's fault is but i can use Digital Vibrance in Windows Media Player 10 just fine playing DivX videos. Colors are really rich, thats why i prefer to keep it enabled. I checked Apple forums and webpage for FAQ or troubleshooting guides but i couldn't find anything related with pink videos and QT. Guess i was searching on wrong Apple forum hehe ;D
Anyway, good to hear both parties are trying to solve the issue. ForceWare 85 series shouldn't be far away from what i heard.

rejzor if you go to discussions.apple.com and go to the quicktime for windows sub-forum and start reading it will become very clear this is not an isolated issue, you were probably reading in the general quicktime forum which is mor efor OS X users
