AIS Started Blocking Email & Scanner
« on: July 22, 2017, 12:51:45 AM »
Hey guys,

Client contacted me saying that one of their Windows 10 boxes could no longer receive email or use the network scanner.  The email is setup using Microsoft Outlook 2010 but when they opened the software it couldn't connect.  Upon arriving onsite I witnessed this myself so I deactivated Avast protection and Outlook connected and emails started to come in.  Same with network printer/scanner.

Previously this same machine was unable to receive scanned images from the network scanner but after contacting this forum this matter was rectified after disabling "Port Scan Detection".  But this week it started again only with the added issue of the emails.  So after working with AIS for a while I decided to uninstall and reinstall it and the same again, no change.

Took the computer home to work at it and as soon I connected it to my home network in the same manner via Ethernet connection Microsoft Outlook connected right away.  I obviously cannot check the network scanner but I feel that both issues are related so if I can resolve one it will resolve the other.

I am assuming that the issue lies with the network profile that Avast Internet Security has assigned for their network on this computer.  Would that be correct?  Has anyone any ideas what could be happening here?  I don't want to take this computer back to the office on Monday morning when they'll need it and to be none the wiser and stuck in the same situation.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wonder if this could be related to the Ransomware Shield possibly blocking Outlook ???
See if disabling that shield solves the problem. It isn't a fix but narrows down the problem.

Really strange this was but I ended up removing AIS again only this time I also used the Avast Removal Tool then entered the registry and manually removed all Avast entries (possibly overkill but wanted to clean it off the system as best as possible). Cleared temporary files from /appData/local and rebooted then reinstalled AIS again and things seem to be ok....for now.

User can access email via MS Outlook again and receive scans from network scanner. I just wouldn't get myself too excited at the minute as there was a reason AIS started to block these services and that is something I was unable to determine so I'm hoping it doesn't raise its head again whatever it was.
