update deleted most of my data from harddrive
« on: July 10, 2018, 03:01:14 PM »
Just had a critical update and after restart, my desktop was reset, my browser preferences and bookmarks are gone. All my music, photos, ebooks and films are deleted from my harddrive, but all my games etc are still there. Windows updates have been switched off for months so they didn't affect anything, only avast has been updated.

Am I going to have to change from avast to protect from it happening again in future?

Windows might sometimes be unable to load your profile at log on, in which case it will create a temporary profile with no files and preferences stored. In that case you might simply need to sign out of Windows, then sign back in.

If that doesn't help, check the contents of C:\Users directory. It should contain the directory with your user name and all files inside.
