Publication of browser holes not taken well
« on: July 18, 2006, 04:08:51 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

A security researcher's project to publish a new browser hole
every day of July this year has not only been deeply criticized
by browser makers and security experts, but by black hat hackers too
Hackers are not overtly enthusiastic that their knowledge is being made publicly available.

After the first week HD Moore got a complaint from a Russian
Cybercriminal that he had published a bug that this black hat
mis-used. "Black hats are not amused I publish this information, because black hat hackers misuse these bugs. Through publication of these bugs to the general community, I clear the skies, and the "good guys" know then what the others are up to" Moore added.

Microsoft, whose browser has most bugs, does not second Moore's opinions. The softwaregigant criticizes the marathon bug being made public, and emphasized again users to update  their software to be less vulnerable to new threats
from malicious attackers.

The security researcher found most bugs in Internet Explorer,
but Firefox has some little problems too. Regarding the Opera browser: its version 9 is solid, but this cannot be said of version 8.5.

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
