First Time Slow Down
« on: August 16, 2006, 02:58:35 AM »
I have several Tool bars located in the Windows XP Toolbar located at the bottom of the screen. When I first click on them after a fresh reboot  my computer freezes for 5 to 10 seconds, I also notice the avast icon stops spinning in the task bar area. However after the initial freeze everthing seems normal. Is this normal?

Maybe... I mean, avast can 'freeze' some applications for some seconds in order to scan...
Does the 'last scanned file' into Standard Shield provider is displayed correctly?, i.e., does if belongs to these toolbars? (left click the 'a' blue icon, click 'details' buttom to expand the panel and check which Standard Shield reports as being the last scanned file...

As an experiment I disabled all four avast services and removed it from my startup programs list. I assume this totally prevents avast from running. Anyway I still had the first time 8-12 second delay after reboot. Must be something else causing this.

Maybe... Which firewall do you use? Which other security program?

 :)  Hi dlhan :

Probably cause by 1 or more of those "several Toolbars"
you mentioned in your 1st post ; what are the NAMES of
those "toolbars" ? Could any of them possibly be
     SPYWARE !?

As Tech has already asked, what are the NAMES of your
    security program(s)?

Which "XP" do you have ?

I have XP Pro, use Kerio 2.15 as my firewall, and Windows Defender as my realtime spyware protection. These toolbars are created by rightclicking on the Windows Task Bar and choosing "New Toolbar".

Kerio has a function to 'block' attacks while booting or shutting down.
Does disabling this feature help in anyway?

Looked all over Kerio, could not find any mention of this blocking feature.
