I just recently did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on a fresh hard drive, and migrated all my programs and things over with software. Avast was not meant to be one of them, as the software didn't recommend it, and it's easy enough to redownload the installer and put it back in place, but I guess something got mixed up. I've been trying on and off for several days now to get Avast working again, with no luck. I run the installer, it does the box in the middle of the screen about installing, then the box hooked to the taskbar about how it's currently installing, and then when that box goes away... nothing. If I check Task Manager, there are still things happening; the installer process is still running, and I can watch Avast Overseer and Avast Remediator go past, but still nothing, no prompts to me at all. It's not actually installed on my system anywhere, even though it has folders in Program Files. I've run the separate uninstall program, even (avastclear), which prompted me to restart, but running the installer after that did nothing different. If I open the installer again after it runs and does nothing, it makes a copy of itself on my desktop. I'm at a total loss, and I'd appreciate any advice. I've been using Avast for years with no real issue, I'd hate to have to bail just because something about the installer is borked for my system.
