Does avast support Pidgin (new gaim client?)
« on: May 01, 2007, 05:40:08 AM »
Pidgin 2.0Beta 7 of gaim is out, and I was curious if this will be reflected in protection through avast.

Isn't Pidgin essentially just gaim renamed ?
Since gaim is supported then I would have thought Pidgin would be (my supposition not avast's), however, if application file names, etc have been changed then perhaps not.

The only real why to see is to try it and see if the Instant Messaging monitors it.

Well I have tested this a few times through transferring documents, pictures, music, and movies... and Instant Messaging scan does not scan anything through pidgin.  So from my limited testing Avast does not cover the recent release of gaim that is now known as 'pidgin'.

Scanning is related to program process name, so if they renamed GAIM executable to pidgim, then files transfered through it won't be scanned.

And, on contrary, will it work if the user rename pidgim to GAIM?

I thought Avast would support Pidgin by now, replacing it with "Gaim" in their supported client list.
