Virus through instant message
« on: June 15, 2007, 07:20:59 PM »
I received an instant message with a link to http: //www2 .imward .com /m.php? m= travis @ travismick .com
I clicked it, and my Web Shield found a virus. It was the Win32:VB-KP trojan. The IM came through an IM from one of my friends, who wasn't even online. My IM client is pidgin and I was using the MSN protocol. Is this a backdoor? I googled imward.com and got no results. Was my friends account compromised? If so, is it possible that my account can be compromised like this? I got rid of the virus, I just want to know how I got this link!

Please, do not post live links to infected sites or files...  :( :(
People could click on it and get infected. Although, in this case, Dr. Web says it's clean...

Other answers, I can only speculate...

Oops. I figured that since i didn't put it in url tags it wouldn't make it a link. However, I am using avast home edition, and I received this virus alert by email a short time after it discovered the virus.

avast! [TRAVIS]: File "http:// www2. imward .com /m.php? m= travis @ travismick .com \[PECompact]" is infected by "Win32:VB-KP [Trj]" virus.
"Resident protection (Web Shield)" task used
