ashServ.exe file missing - Help
« on: November 06, 2007, 07:43:38 PM »
Hi everybody..

I need some help... a few days ago I saw that the Avast Icon on the desktop hat changed from the ball to a normal white window and also in the task list the logo disapeared... I tried to click on the icon, but nothing happened... I already uninstalled, restarted and installed again, but always de system tells me not to run the programm as the ashServ.exe file is missing... when I check in the control pannel, all files are there, but no exe files...

Can anybody help me ? I tried to uninstall and install at least 4 times now and I can't find a solution..

thanks for your help

Veronique

There is a similar topic http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=25822.0
Use this tool to scan your PC - http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/

You probably still have an infection, probably a rootkit on your system that is killing avast.

After running the above rootkit tools if nothing is found try these.
If you haven't already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.
AVG anti-spyware or SUPERantispyware or Spyware Terminator.
