Problems Updating Please read

HI!!
Ok this is what happened.
I installed Avast and everything was fine...However a few days ago I decided to install the german language to avast and I did. However I started getting error message (red icon saying "error while attempting to update" or something) instead of my usual blue box and voice saying it just updated fine.
I tried to manual update and it works. However I tried to repair also but no change, still red icon popping up.
PLEASE HELP ITS REALLY ANNOYING!!!

Check the logs for the exact error. right click the "a" icon, select log viewer, error button.

A bit of research on the forum turned up the following.

What version of avast are you using? Perhaps when you added the German language, you ended up with a corrupted install.

Since repair didn't work you can try the solution in the second link above or uninstall/reinstall.

1) Uninstall avast and boot.
2) Use the avast uninstall utility  http://avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
3) Boot.
4) Install avast! Boot.

ok I think I will wait for the next version of avast to come out to reinstall. I have had bad experience uninstalling antivirus programs so I will wait. If nothing works, then I will reinstall as you said.

avast generally is not a problem when uninstalled, like many other AVs, so don't let a previous problem stop you trying. I would say don't wait, you have a problem that you should resolve, the next program update may not resolve the problem, if as oldman it could be a failed or corrupt install.

First Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html (scroll down to the German language version) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Also download the Uninstall Utility as oldman said before you uninstall the current version.

Now uninstall using add remove programs and reboot.
Run the uninstall utility and reboot.
Install the latest German Language version you downloaded.

Do you install avast in the default location, C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 ?
If not try using the default location, or ensure that there are no accented characters in the path/location you choose, like umlauts, etc.
