Avast weigh of 543 gb!
« on: March 28, 2022, 02:18:03 AM »
Hello (i'm not  native English speaker, sorry if I dont express myself correctly)

I saw that my C: disk of 980 gb was full, something that is impossible because I have a lot of caution using my disk space, I have a gaming computer so I use an external SSD for my games.
Since I noticed that something was wrong I started a complete analysis of my system while I used "Treesize" so I could watch exactly where the problem was and I just noticed that Avast files on program data is weighing 543 Gb

What should I do? A virus just infected the main carpet of this antivirus?

What Avast Program and version number are you using  ?

What is the exact folder location  ?

My Local Disk (C:) > Program Data > Avast Software folder is quite small at 188MB, image1.
My %appdata% User >AppData > roaming > AVAST Software is even smaller 42.6MB, image2.

However I'm only running a minimal installation of Avast Free.

PROBLEM SOLVED.

Yeah the program was on the main files of avast I knew that avast shouldn't weigh too much so it was suspicious, the problematic file is called "WPR_initiated_WprApp_WPR System Collector.etl", apparently this is an error derived from windows actualizations.
If someone needs to solve it: you just need to change on windows the settings from Diagnostic and usage data changing the values from basic to/or enhanced.
Also, you can delete the file directly and apparently you can stop the process from CMD but I don't know how.

I'm glad you have it sorted now.

Thanks for reporting the solution and the file, a google search for that file name gives lots of hits and it seems this has been going on for some time.

I had the same issue, could fix it by running wpr -cancel in cmd as administrator, I think this has something to do with the latest windows update, never had this issue before.

To resolve the WPR system collector.etl issue, please follow the steps below:

Press Windows key+i to open Settings, then select Privacy.
Under Privacy, select Feedback & diagnostics.
Under Diagnostic and usage data, change Send your device data to Microsoft to Enhanced or Basic.
    Close the Settings.
This one confirms what you did.

End result is that this is a Microsoft problem not an Avast problem.

I am not so sure that this is [only] a Windows problem . Why do the files appear under Avast ? Does Avast need to adjust to be compatible? Windows does not have Advanced/ Basic settings under Privacy only Basic and Optional. I have the Basic setting. There is a setting on how often to send diagnostic data to Microsoft whaich is by default set to Automatic.  Windows + X, Powershell as Admin, wpr - cancel does not seem to shop the problem permanently. In Avast settings I have Debug/ log unchecked under Settings/ Troubleshooting. The problem keeps reoccurring. Should I try recording the problem ? Or turn the bug log on ?
