unusable tiny window, cannot resize
« on: July 07, 2023, 10:25:30 AM »
Greetings.

Please make the window resize-able,  i have a 20" screen runs perfect on anything except with avast. the window is a tiny 600x300 window and the text is unreadable.

This issue makes the program unusable.

Please fix

What is your screen resolution  ?
Which Avast Antivirus product are you using and what is the version number  ?

I have a laptop with  15.6" screen and that has a standard (1920x1080) 1080p resolution and that was fine (if anything a bit  large about 1013 pixels wide).  Currently that is hooked up to 27" (2560×1440 pixels) 1440P screen and that is Avast UI screen is only 1010X674 pixels.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free  24.8.6127 (build 24.8.9372.870) UI 1.0.818/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

The OP should also check the main AVAST.exe > Properties > Compatibility options to make sure it hasn't accidentally been set to 640 x 480 or something like that.

Another possibility: has the OP actually tried to resize the AVAST GUI window by dragging the edges outwards? There may not be a maximize window option but AVAST's GUI has always been resizable that way. It may be an available but forgotten tool.

FYI - hover the cursor on any corner edge of the current display box and it should turn to a double headed arrow. Simply right click mouse, hold and drag the corner outwards to resize it.

Well we don't know what Avast product the OP is using.

For as long as I can remember the Avast UI has been of a fixed size.
I certainly can't replicate what you are suggesting about dragging the edges.  You can drag the UI to another position but not increase the size.

Must have been a GUI feature they removed in more recent AVAST versions. Pity, it is or I should say was a useful feature. But why did they do that and why has it has never had a full screen option?

But without resizing being possible then, as you suggested, the problem the OP describes could well be a resolution issue of some sort.

It has been gone for many years.

Since then I have never seen the Main UI al less than 1010ishx600 pixels.

The only issue I had with the Avast UI Size was way back when using an Acer Aspire One with a tiny 10.1" LED Screen.
That was with Win7 Starter edition and that was too big to fit in the screen.  Had to drag it around to access certain areas.
Which is kind of the opposite to what the OP is experiencing.
