WIN32:BHO:KD[Trjn] HELP!!
« on: January 05, 2008, 03:07:50 AM »
I have this cursed thing but am techically challenged. I have read over the posts on others with this problem but find some of the instructions confusing. Is anyone patient enough to help an illeterate? For example I do not know where system restore is. BTW why the hell doesn't AVAST have an answer to this? Thanks. ??? ???

Hi Davey, welcome to the forum.

Answer to one question, as of Jan 03

Quote
the test of Trats detection (against our cleanset) is running and in case of success it will be added tomorrow... another detections for some strange BHOs and Virtumondes are queued, but i can't guarantee that they will come out tomorrow...

so as you can see they are working on it.

Alright, lets start. You will have to download and run these to programs in the order that I posted them. After you have run each progam a log will be produced, please post those logs in your next reply.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.

.
  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

This is easy then it sound. Just take your time, ask if you have any questions.

Open HJT, run a system scan only, check mark these lines if present

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pyqv41] C:\WINDOWS\system32\pyqv41.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [pyqv41] C:\WINDOWS\system32\pyqv41.exe

Close all other browsers/windows, click fix, close HJT.

Open a new Notepad session (Do not use a Word Processor or WordPad). Click "Format" and be certain that Word Wrap is not enabled.(no check mark beside it)

Copy and paste all the text in the quote box below into Notepad.

Click File, Save as..., and set the location to your Desktop, and enter (including quotation marks) as the filename: "CFscript.txt" . Using your mouse left button, drag the new file CFscript.txt and drop it on the ComboFix.exe icon as shown at the bottom of this post.

Quote
File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\zqdpepnk.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\libssl32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mjnshxkg.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\atkgljcb.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ujaeljov.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\uubesphh.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\libeay32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pyqv41.exe

This will start ComboFix again.Close  all browser/windows first. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HJT log.

Looks good. Any problems? Questions?

If you feel you are clean, I have a bit of a clean up routine and a couple of recommendations.

Thanks oldman, much obliged. I guess we were unfortunate to pick this up before Avast got onto it. Yes any clean up/reccomendations would be appreciated.

1. Click the sart button, click run, and copy and paste this line into the box and click ok.

combofix /u

2. Open Hijack this, click on the misc tools button, slide the slider down, click uninstall.

3. Create a new restore point

You must be logged on to an administrator account
Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore.
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
In the text box labeled Restore Point Description, type a name for this restore point , click create

4. Remove old restore points

- Go to Start - All Programs - Accessories - system tools. Launch the Disk Cleanup tool and let it run. When it finishes a box with tabs will appear, select the more options tab. On this tab you will find a section for System Restore. If you press the Clean Up button for that section, Windows will delete all restore points except for the most recent one.

5. Download and run this clean up utility. You can use it regularly. When it's first run, it is in demo mode to show you what it will remove. Review it and then rerun in real mode. It is configurable.

CleanUp

6. Your java is waaaaaay out of date. It can be used as an entry point for  malware.

Open an Internet Explorer (only) window and go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp > In the middle of the page, click on the Download button to the right of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3 > If Information Bar pop-ups up, right-click on it and say it's OK to display the blocked content.

You do not have to install the Java Web Start ActiveX Control

Accept the license agreement > Click on Windows (XP,Vista, .etc) Offline Installation, Multi-language and Save the file jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to your desktop; do not Run it.

When the download is complete, Open Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs:

Uninstall anything that says Sun Java, Java JRE, or similar.

Close Add/Remove Programs.

In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\Java <=this folder, if found. Delete any subfolders it may contain.

Do NOT delete C:\Program Files\JavaVM <=this folder, if found!

Reboot your computer.

Double-click on the saved file to install the update.

Delete the downloaded installation file after completing the above procedure  and reboot if not prompted to do so.

7. It looks like you are using windows firewall. It doesn't provide outbound protection. A third party firewall will.

A discussion on free firewalls can be found here.

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=30808.0

If you want something a little heftier than spybot, try the free version of superantispyware. Keep the spybot also, as the free SAS will be on demand only, but it is very good with vundo type detections. Just keep it updated and do "complete scans" from time to time.

Use the little cleanup program I had you download from time time also.

Keep safe and take care.  ;)

btw, you did great.
