I'm on Win 10 and have been using Avast free for many years without any problems. For many months now, however, there has been a big problem.
Usually Avast and the virus database update automatically. Now there's a notice saying that the virus database is obsolete and needs updating. When I do so, it grinds for a while and then a message says that the virus base cannot be updated. Nothing more.
The only temporary solution I've found is to completely uninstall Avast (with the utility) and reinstall it. But the problem remains the same afterwards.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling several times without any success.
I must point out that I haven't changed anything on this PC. So what can I do?
I've written to the French Avast forum (that's my language) but nobody has found a solution. I've already tried just about everything that's been suggested.
Thank you for an explanation and, above all, for a solution, because the problem has been going on for many months and I am no longer protected.
