Home edition Licensing

I realize that you can't cover every scenario in the license agreement, but I find conflicting statements.

On one page you say "avast! 4 Home Edition can only be used by home users that do NOT use their computer for profit.", but in the FAQ you say "'Commercial', using our definition, would define ANY work done for a commercial aim (money is not the issue, nor is profit so, for instance, non-profit charity work would be commercial in nature.)" I find these conflicting.

Here is my scenario. We gave our Board of Directors, who are volunteers and not compensated, laptops for their home. They will be using the laptops for some business, but mostly for home use. Our company is a non-profit organization.

Thanks for your help.

From previous questions of this nature I would say that they 'don't' qualify for home/non-commercial use. However, I don't represent Alwil software and am just an avast user.

As has been said money/profit isn't the issue, as in non-profit charity. I assume your organisation has to be run under business rules, filing accounts, etc. in the same way as a commercial for profit business.

Non-profit organisations I believe can contact Alwil software to see if there organisation might qualify for a discount on the Pro version.

Click here to see the differences between avast Home & Professional versions.

There is an article defining commercial in the sense of non-commercial use of avast! Home Edition in their knowledge base written by their sales team:

Quote
"Commercial", using our definition, would define ANY work done for a commercial aim (money is not the issue, nor is profit so, for instance, non-profit charity work would be commercial in nature.). Hobbies would be considered home use; except where such hobby is running a commercial business (again, money and profit are not relevant to the definition).
