how good is it? is there any background processes that I can't disable with free version? Would it work on a old Windows ME+384mb ram?

It's a good application that could be configurated to not run background processes (in free, non-resident version).

I un-check the free edition's option for it to start with windows, and only start it to update before an on-demand scan.  Also, this way the start-up screen doesn't appear when you turn on the computer.

If you uncheck start with windows it isn't in background.
