Need your help if needed
« on: July 24, 2008, 04:54:05 PM »
I was checking to see the Avast free edition, avast On-Access Scanner Control and noticed that one of the box on the left pane of the page -- Outlook/Exchange Version 4.8-1227  doesn't look like working because of the message on top right of the page.  Look below:

Outlook/Exchange
The provider is waiting for a subsystem to start

Now what I am suppose to do with this??  Or not to worry about this.  The reason why I am asking is that sometime I do get spam emails in my Outlook inbox?  Is that something to do with this.  Or how do I control to make sure there are no spam emails get into my Outlook inbox?

Let me know about this and how to prevent more spam emails down the road on my Outlook inbox?

Thank you,

John P. Mackay

It is disabled by default unless you have MS Outlook (not express) and what it is waiting for is MS Outlook to start ?

Do you have MS Outlook ?
If not did you start the Outlook/Exchange provider ?

If you have MS Outlook what version ?
If so check and see if the avast plug-in isn't disabled in MS Outlook.

avast isn't an anti-spam so that won't change unless you have some form of filtering.

Only have Microsoft Outlook (Express) not the other that you mentioned.  Look to see what version of Microsoft Outlook (Express) and it's version 6.  You mentioned that I should check to see if the avast plug-in is not disabled in Microsoft Outlook.  Where do I find this to make sure that avast plug-in is in service with this Microsoft Outlook.

Thank you,

With Outlook Express, the avast! Internet Mail provider deals with email scanning, you should Terminate the avast! Outlook/Exchange provider (answer Yes to the persistence question). This shouldn't have been enabled by default so you must have started it thinking it was needed.

When I talk of MS Outlook that is exactly what I mean and not MS Outlook Express which is totally different.

Where do I find this to make sure that avast plug-in is in service with this Microsoft Outlook.
Outlook 2007 > Tools > Trust center > Add-inns > Manage Disabled items.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items.
Outlook 2002 > Help > About Microsoft Outlook > Disabled items.
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
