turn all Avast running programs off

i am trying to load a program and need to turn Avast off. when i "stop on access protection" the program i am trying to load tell me that Avast still has items running. how do i turm those off

the program i am tring to load is PaperPort Professional 11.1

And is it avast detecting is as being infected? Are you seeing a virus warning?

No, just a draconian recommendation by to disable your AV, which (ludite) you should ignore.
