Javascript on Google's Chrome

Hello,

I've just installed Avast because a friend recomended it to me. To browse webpages I use google chrome and IE, after installing Avast I'm no longer able to view javascript on any of both browsers, for example i have a gmail gadget on my igoogle home page that works with javascript that no longer works. Before Avast i used it with no problems. Is there a solution for this?

Hi kenhaki,

Then somehow you must have disabled javascript. That is a lot more secure, but will seriously hamper your browsing. Javascript can also be diabled inside the browser and not only on an av solution level.
After you have removed the general blocking of javascript, use a browser like Firefox with the NoScript extension. There you can selectively allow or disallow javascript to run,

if you're running the free version of Avast5, you don't have the script shield. If you got "pro" or AIS, then you got the script shield but basically the only browser that works with it is IE. Neither Chrome nor Firefox do. Anyway, I fear your issue isn't avast related, ie I can't see how Avast could do that...There's a new javascript option in Chrome (may be just in the dev version, 5.0) see what you can do there. As to IE, see if scripting is enabled.

Hi Logos,

Thank you Logos for the additional info. What also could hamper here is the silent downloads for Chrome. I have ABP Plus as a chrmoe extension and after such a download I have to check the settings again as these can become empty. Yes Google Chrome has some hick-ups, sure has,

off topic: ABP like other extensions lose their settings in Chrome when you clear private data. Click&Clean has an option to clean and preserve extension settings, but extra ABP filters seem to get lost anyway...I don't like to say it but I'm done with Chrome. I still keep it installed to see the evolution on the dev channel update after update, 'cause that's interesting. But for "serious" browsing, I stick to Firefox 99% of the time. The speed argument in Chrome doesn't justify the switch, when honestly the whole interface is still light years behind...firefox imo
