does my license key of avast 4 professional allow me to upgrade to avast 5?

Yes you can upgrade to 5.0 provided you have time left on your existing license at no cost.

No you can't use your 4.8 pro key but you can get it converted.

- avast! 5 Pro license convert from 4.8 Pro license. Try http://www.avast.com/resend-license.php now, fill in the form giving your email and 4.8 Pro License key and they will send the new license file to you (presumably it will check you have a legit 4.8 Pro license first).

Once you've received your new lisc. key. Install avast!5 and you can then simply double click on the lisc. file to register your new version.
