Portable Anti-Viruses
« on: October 06, 2010, 10:57:22 PM »
I was checking out Portable Anti-Viruses at:

http://www.pendriveapps.com/software/portable-antispyware-malware/

Now ... the Portable Anti-Virus that gets touted by PortableApps.com is ClamWin.
I read somewhere that it sucks.  Does it?
If so, which of the Anti-Viruses in the link above would be good to have in a Flash Drive?

Okay, this Trend Micro HouseCall, I've been trying to figure out how it works.
Something about in the cloud.
Does that mean it's basically an Online Anti-Virus?
Would a computer have to be Online in order for HouseCall to work?
Or does it with every use download the latest virus definitions?
Would HouseCall be better than ClamWin?

They certainly have it there at PendriveApps.com as a Portable App.

Anyway, so, your understanding is that any and all Files that would get scanned, would have to be uploaded over to Trend Micro to be scanned there?  If that is the case, then it definitely would NOT be something for use with my Dial Up.

I think this is only the installer for the TrendMicro Housecall, so when you click it it will be installed on the computer you want to scan and it must be online for it to work

Me, i always carry a USB on my keyring with portableapps .....ClamWin

That would be ridiculous for a computer to NEED to be Online for HouseCall to work.
I mean, what if a Virus has disabled the computer's ability to get Online?  Pfffttt!

So then I take it you HAVE used ClamWin and it's NOT bad for what it basically is ... a NON-Primary Anti-Virus?
