Unable to Register Avast
« on: October 18, 2004, 06:53:21 AM »
Hi, i'm new to avast and would appreciate help.
i recently downloaded avast home edition and registered. i received a key, but i when i copied and pasted it, it said "invalid key". i then tried it again several times, being VERY careful not to include spaces (i understand the importance of detail, because i too write software). i then re-registered and received the same key; still, the key DID NOT work. Please help me.

Welcome to the Forums.
If the date is correct, be sure to use copy and paste to enter the enter the key. Be very careful not to add any blank spaces in the copy process.

Bountyhunter, if after all, nothing works, maybe the generator of keys did it wrong  ???
Can you use another email address to receive a different key number?

If you cant, did you use copy&paste method (without the last extra blank space on the number)?

To Alwil: who is encharged of this? pk is only for PDA version if I'm not wrong... Maybe Vlk  ;D

I did all that was suggested, even registering with a different email; the key they sent still didn't work. when i installed the software, it said i had 60 DAYS to register, but within 2 DAYS, it no longer works at all and won't let me register. i appreciate the help, but without a solution, i may go to avg. i emailed the avast support team, but i received an automated reply suggesting the same stuff in the faqs and what you all provided.

Bounty - try to repair avast! by using Add/Remove and then select repair. Perhaps there was a bad install.

It would help for the next person with the same or similar problem if you mentioned how you solved it.  Thanks ;D

Sorry. i had forgotten that i had performed a system rollback AFTER installing avast. this rolled back software info that avast had set and could not correctly communicate with the os. i downloaded the remove avast utility and removed avast completely. i then re-installed it and it accepted my reg key.
