Comparison for a Newbie

I just stumbled upon this forum and the Avast software and as a newbie I've a comparison question. For those of you who have used AVG anti-virus software. How does the free home edition of Avast compare in terms of performance, ease of use, frequency of updates with AVG? Thanks.

In a few words > it's better !

I used AVG free , AVG 6 professional, AVG 7.0 full (trial).

Updates are much faster, and minimum 2 / week (AVG updates less frequent)

It's almost childsplay to use (especially home edition).

It has a much better detecion rate than AVG (wich scores bad in overall testings)

Support of AVAST is awsome ! really is !

AVAST saved my sorry ass multiple times now ! incredible.

It kicks right between the balls of AVG !

Only 1 choise, make no mistake my friend > AVAST! 4 HOME / PRO

I agree with Waldo. I have used Nortons, Mcafee, AVG and now I use Avast Pro. I will not use anything else ever. Support for Avast is awsome  :)  Avast Pro rocks  :)

AVG seems to require a schedule to update and run - I am hoping Avast does everything automatically.

I just manually updated and it downloaded an update - why wasn't that automatically done prior to me checking?  The old was from 08/22/03, today is 8/26...would think there was something in the last 4 days?
