grinding on the hard drive

when not useing the computer my hard drive is frying all the time like on a over load.....is this my  avast ckecking my files or what....im thinking of doing something different and let my hard drive get a break......any answers?  john :D

Windows might be indexing your hard drive... There are many programs that could be using your idle time to do things. Could you tell us what is running? With that info we might help find out the answer.

You may try to open the <avast>\data\avast4.ini file and in the [Common] section, change the item Database=ODBC to Database=XML. This could prevent the Microsoft Jet drivers from accessing the database... does it have any (positive) effect?
