Msigeplugin61 a virus?
« on: December 30, 2011, 09:23:00 PM »
I have been getting a message when running my Avast version 6.0.1367 that the msigeplugin61 (a Google Earth plugin) is a virus. I searched the Internet and can only find one site that says it is a a virus. Anyone here know anything about msigeplugin61?    ???

Hi Pondus,

It is a heuristical find, threatexpert has it analyzed here: http://www.threatexpert.com/report.aspx?md5=6ac57f91cde996aacf73f959cb82fc8a
because the plug-in uses Background Intelligent Transfer Service as common with MS update, and other software updates. BITS has been around since XP SP2 came with this support tool,

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
