ShowChrome in avast5.ini file ???
« on: February 26, 2012, 02:00:02 AM »
Avast,

 I use Avast Internet Security.

I just edited the avast5.ini file to stop Avast from
asking me to "Complete Your Update" every time I booted
up windows XP.  While editing this file I found an
entry in that file that read "ShowChrome = 0".

I have recently gotten away from Google which was
slowly taking over my browser windows with new
unwanted "features" and other intrusive items.

Does Avast now have some connection to Google.

Can I get an answer from an Avast representative so
I can decide if I need to look for another antivirus .

As a reseller I'm not exactly sure what the relationship is between Google and avast with regards to the Chrome install. I do believe that the safezone portion may be a heavily modified Chromium OS. My thought is that Chrome may be a recommendation or there may be a deal between Google and avast for its inclusion as an optional install. I doubt that their relationship goes any further than that.

Many companies do that sort of thing like Oracle trying to get you to install an Ask.com toolbar when you update java.
