Lasse,

In order for me to help you, I need a bit more information other than "I can't update my Avast".

Did you recently install Avast?
If so, Home or Pro version?
What version and build?
What OS are you using?
Do you have any firewall or blocking filters installed?
Do you have any other anti-virus software installed?

Has Avast ever been successfully updated?
Have your tried a manual update?

When Avast does not update, Do you get any error message?

Thanks,
Techie

I have Avast Home Version installed on the computer...

It is version 4, and the build is 4.1.357...

I'm using Windows XP Professionel...

I don't have a Firewall, but I have a router, and the other users on the network can update their computer...

I don't have any other anti-virus installed...

Yes, but after I reinstalled it, it can't update, I have also tryed to update manually, but even that wouldn't work...

Yes, I get some error messages...

If you ask for my log, I will send it,. but I don't know which of them, you need to see...

1) If you can see this file from the browser, avast should see it too:
http://www.avast.com/iavs4x/servers.def

2) You can send the report using program ashbug with switch /setuplog (ie. run from commandline 'ashbug /setuplog'). Don't forget to describe the problem in few words, or put there link to this thread.

You really have home network with a router? Quite unusual...

Perhaps you got some errors like broken package.
Ive also get errors on the update procedure.

Avast show some red pop-up....and when I read in Avast Log Viewer:
"Function setifaceUpdateFiles() has failed. Return code is 0x20000011, dwRes is 20000011."

And efter a few seconds, the system re-boot. And then everything is alright....
Strange.
Latest of everything is installed, re-installed, cleaned from register and all that.
PC:    Operating System: Windows 2000 Professional (5.0, Build 2195) Service Pack 4
          Language: English
          Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) processor,  MMX,  3DNow, ~1.4GHz
          Memory: 512MB RAM

Any hint about that?

It's better to check the option 'Ask for reboot when needed'. It's not so frequent and give you a litte bit of control. So that won't be a 'strange' thing...

What happens, couldn't you update after this?

Well, not sure about if re-boot is the right word here.
My pc crasch, and re-boot.
It happends when Im looking at my mail with Outlook Express or just surfing the web.

About the check, 'Ask for reboot when needed', I have that option. But when the update make success, I always have some choice.
But after broken updates, It totally crasch.

Il hope someone understand my bad english and explain.

Your english is perfectly understandable...
What surprises me is that a broken package could 'freeze' and worse, boot the system without warning!!!  :o

Maybe you could send some dump files (memory, avast log errors, debug files...) to Alwil team. They could say what files are the best in these case.

Thanx alot for helping me out.

I try read some files when the problems occur today also.
Read the attached file from avast! Log Viewer.
Or are there any other files I must have a look at?

I like this forum wery much, have helped me alot. But I wish a page that helped ppl around getting some info from the avast logs or the system.

Not so easy for a newbie, sometimes read in the ini-files, another time ashbug.....
Okki, I know ppl can search in the forum, but Il think this might be easier for all parts.

Please send a Private Message to me, because the log is to big to be send over Avast's forum...

The program I mentioned sends automatically the complete report to our email (zipped) to be short. No need to post anything here.

Do you really have the latest avast? If not, try to do a program update. If that won't work, download setupful.exe and run it, it'll update the program to the latest version.

Yes, Ive done all that things. And its not getting better.
Seems today that Ive got some error in the RPC.
Havent really check all this and ever seen that kind of pop-up from avast.

So, next time a choose un-install, clean the register and make a new fresh install.

Please, run from commandline 'ashbug /setuplog' and put there some details (problem description, your nick, your email etc.)

Error 0x20000011 is very rare these days...
