HPOSM
« on: November 19, 2004, 03:10:20 PM »
Upon booting up and loading Avast, I get the error "HPOSM - this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."  Details show:  "HPOSM caused an invalid page fault in module OLEAUT32.DLL at 0167:653ba65c [+ register addresses]".

I am running Windows 98 on a HP Brio Intel Celeron, 64 MB RAM.  Avast version 4.5, VPS 0447-0, 11/15/04.  I was running Norton Antivirus but have uninstalled it and installed Avast.  I do not get the error message above if Avast is uninstalled.   In Startup, I have Excel, Outlook Express and Netscape 7.1, which all load correctly before the Avast error appears.

Any ideas what this error refers to?

Thanks.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If that does not help, can you search the board for OLEAUT32.DLL ?
Maybe you found some answers  ::)

I think you posted this in the wrong forum. It has nothing to do with Avast. This a error from a HP device. (printer?)

Thanks - I think you are correct, and I will pursue along that line.  Avast appears to working correctly.
