Exclude POP3 account without disabling provider?
« on: November 20, 2004, 02:27:54 AM »
I have a small program (MailW@tch) that runs in the background on my computer and periodically goes out to see if I have any new mail.  It does not download any attachments and does not try to interpret or execute Javascript in any way, so even if a message contained 500 viruses, my computer would be perfectly safe.

Since upgrading to version 4.5, every transaction MailW@tch makes with any POP3 account (and I have several) is always scanned, causing a performance hit on my computer and popping up the progress window (which I have enabled since normally, I like to see it). This is pointless since there's no way I could possibly be infected by using MailW@tch.

Is there some way to tell Avast 4.5 that POP3 transactions by MailW@tch (or any other specific application) should be completely ignored?  I don't want to shut down the Internet Mail provider completely, since I want the protection when using a more full-featured client to actually read the mail.  I just want it to ignore what MailW@tch does.

This is discussed in many threads in these forums, although it was about PopTray and Pop Peeper (also good pop3 notifiers). You just have to use search feature (up there).

I beleive there is no chance to avoid checking in your little notifier. That's the way things goes in avast! 4.5

Cheers !

Yes and Pop Peeper works great, but that's not the problem inthewildteam. His mail notification program also works great, but his problem is that he doesn't want avast! to check mails when his little program receives them. avast! is doing that every single time. Same situation in Pop Tray and Pop Peeper. I use both of them... actualy, testing Pop Peeper. Every single time one of those programs is processing mails, you can see that avast! is checking them...

Cheers !

See attachment... nothing is previewed. As soon as e-mail reaches PopTray, it's being scanned by avast! I don't have problems with that. I like to see that my avast! is working.

Cheers !

Opps S.Z.C.

I only get the second arrow in your pic if I preview the email, but not downloading headers from my servers.  It's the same for my three pop mail accounts.

Might be my system/mail provider settings?

Could this happen because I checked this option ?

Please check your setting and let me know...

No, I just checked... even if I uncheck it, avast! still checks those mails... maybe, it could be realted to your mail provider settings, I'm really confused now...  :o
