The only way to get rid of the virus warning pop-up is by using silent mode.

I can't see why you would simply shout NOPE !!!.

Why ask for advice if you are going to ignore the suggestion, especially without expanding on the reason for NOPE !!! ???

You didn't state when the warning pops up (please help us to help you by giving full information), but that makes little difference, you still use silent mode, in the provider you want to stop the warning.

You are trying to solve a problem in email we are talking about the Internet Mail provider.

I see from your other post silent mode is not deleting the email, that is probably because you have not applied silent mode to the correct provider. This could also have been included in this question.

Untick 'Show detailed info on performed action'

Internet Mail

Standard Shield

All of this is in the avast! help file and has been covered many times befor on these forums.

Sorry to step in but mantra is right DavidR - hmm, at least I see the same behaviour.

Unchecking "Silent mode" & Unchecking "show detailed info on performed action":
- the "blue & yellow long panel" on the bottom of the screen pops up
- the warning sound comes
- a pop up window appears where you are able to select further actions

Checking "Silent mode" & Checking "with general answer no (cancel) & unchecking "show detailled..."
- the "blue & yellow long panel" on the bottom of the screen pops up
- no sound
- no additional pop up

Have tried this with downlaoding the eicar.com test file - settings in standard shield.

That may well be the case, but in one post you have provided more information than all mantra's initial posts.

So replies have virtually been a process of elimination/guess work because of a lack of information. I still don't know when/why mantra gets the warnings and for what provider.

Personally I don't use silent mode, because I want to know what is going on with my system. If someone is getting so many warnings of virus infection, infected emails, etc. then it is time to review their security practice - filter emails at source, delete from server rather than download them, etc.

@DavidR : Ok, have Your point

I also don't like silent modes - I want to know if something wants to harm my system and I'm fine with pop up's and loud and annoying sounds - so I'm immediate alarmed that a problem exists - and I want to decide by myself how to react.

Hi,

in avast 4 HOME!
you cannot have silentMode or disable warnings in STANDARD Shield;
in the mail-provider it is possible (see above/Search), and of course you can disable the NETWORKShield's warnings (search) ;)

The Home version has "Silent Mode" for the Standard Shield as well, there's no difference here.

Anyway, if you really want to disable the resident protection virus popups (and I'm not saying it's a good idea), put the following line into the [AAVM] section of your avast4.ini file:
ShowVirusTag=0
