Min,

I am not familiar with Mozilla having only used Netscape, AOL and Internet Explorer.

How do you find it in comparison in the areas of reliablity and stability?

Mozilla is a very good browser (drived basiclly from NetScape, freeware, no ad banners as Opera does  ;)
it is a little bit heavy on my machine (old 300 MHz celeron one), but it hase nice features that you can not find in IE (tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking ...).
And above all it is really stable, you do not see these "illegal operration" messages that IE generates especially if you use Win98/Win98se..
Hope you give it a try.. ;D
Regards,

Mina

Actually, it would probably be more accurate to say that Netscape is derived from Mozilla (at least the later versions, about v4 I think). Netscape released the code about 5 or 6 years ago for people to develop it. Then, when Mozilla releases a milestone version they then take the updated Mozilla code, add there own code such as the integrated AIM & release there own version.

If you don't want or need the Mail component you could try Mozilla Firebird which is just the browser. It's smaller & little bit faster than the Mozilla suite.

The Head-2-Head column in the November issue of MaximumPC compares Mozilla Firebird 0.6 with Internet Explorer 6.0.  The former obtained a 9 rating; the latter was rated 7.  The two browsers were compared in six areas, with Firebird winning the competition in features, convenience, and third-party support and IE winning in stability, compatibility, and speed.

According to MaximumPC, IE is more stable, but they experienced no major problems with Firebird, only an occasional crash.  The editors preferred Firebird's features, especially the tabs for web pages and the ability to save a set of tabs as a bookmark or even as a home page.  They felt that IE is more compatible as some pages did not display properly in the other browser.  Among the Firebird convenience items mentioned were a pop-up blocker, an advanced cookie manager, and  the availability of numerous skins and extensions, including mouse gestures.  Also mentioned, but not explained, is the lack of Gator spyware in the challenger (no mention as to which browser, presumably some other freeware, does contain the spyware).  In regards to speed, the column stated that Firebird is reasonably fast but still slower than IE, lagging by 1.2 seconds to display pages.
