I suppose yes but you must wait for the avast! team answer...
What I can tell you is that if the user has more than one computer AT HOME he/she does not have to register each computer of different members of the family

That's just what I've been wrestling with so far.

I don't want to misinterpret the meaning of "non-commercial", as it applies to avast! 4 Home, or treat its Free nature with contempt.

I have used many different AV apps (free and purchased) and this is the one that I prefer.

It is very clear in the registration process that AVAST is free for HOME and NON-COMMERCIAL usage.

As far as I know from many legal interpretations and "Terms" agreements, a non-profit organization, although commercially formed, is not considered a "commercial enterprise" which is typically profit based.

Unless the AVAST team states otherwise, I would say this:

This software is released as FREEWARE, but it may not be sold or be included in a product or package which intends to receive benefits through the inclusion of this software. The AVAST HOME files must remain unmodified, unchanged, and cannot be "broken down" and then used in whole or in part of "any other software" without specific agreement with Alwil/Avast.  

Once you register as a home user, you can without reservation, use Avast Home on more than one computer that YOU own.  Any other user on YOUR computer is fine.  But, any user with their own computer even if in the same household should register for their own copy.

This keeps things on the up and up.

Concerning the legal mumbo jumbo: I'm fine with it in this situation where ALWIL distributes the Free version to my advantage - it's the purchased progs (THAT I OWN) with the same mumbo jumbo legal stuff that makes me ill.

Agreed.  But in today's environment with piracy all about us, you can't blame the vendors for trying to cover themselves.

Most of us do not read the Legal-ize before we check the Accept box.

My advice is that you should!

Look what is happening to those that were downloading music!

With regard to the mumbo-jumbo of users' agreements, I've always loved the tongue-in-cheek approach taken by MindWorkshop/Alchemy for their Graphics Workshop and other products.  Nearly every paragraph ends with "(the lawyers made us say that)".

And if (extremely unlikely, unless you're heavily distributing completed works) they decide you're in volation of the shareware agreement, the heck with lawyers.  They threaten to dispatch winged demons of the night to wreak havoc on your computer and your person.

Sure does.
That's not what I wanted to hear...but it's the complete and final answer that I was searching for.

I will still continue to use avast! 4 Home at HOME, but now I'll have to consider the cost of registering it for the business or go another route.

Any thoughts? My environment is a 30 user peer-to-peer - I know it's a few too many users but it's cheap and it works according to our needs.
FYI, I use the network mainly to backup all the PCs to a server.

avast pro could work nicely about $630 for 30 computers ( i am terrible at math PLEASE double check this)

I stand corrected.  Sorry, my interpretation was in error.
I guess Avast looks at Non-profit as a business.  

But at least I got them to challenge the explanation I gave, so it accomplished what you wanted.
