I need help!
« on: July 13, 2004, 02:39:03 PM »
I've run avast at work and it moved all my outlook .dbx (and some other files it could not acces) to one big file called C:\Documents and Settings\Administrador\Local settings\Temp\_avast4_\unp163544433 (no extension).
In the log screen, I select the files that i want moved into a folder so i can import back into Outlook, but it says the files are password protected???
What should i do to restore my files from the unp163544433 file??

Thanks!

Ok, just figured it out.
Renamed the unp file to .zip, and found out it was a password protected zip file. The password was the one i set for avast so no one else could change its settings.
That was bad, if i wasnt computer savvy, i'd have lost all my outlook info.
well there goes avast, shift+del...

bye.

I think you should describe better what you have done...
The unp... file in Temp\_avast_ is a temporary file created by avast! when it's inspecting the content of some archives - it certainly doesn't move any files there. These files can be freely deleted.
avast! doesn't store its data in archive protected zip files; in fact, even when you set the avast! password, it's not stored anywhere- so it certainly doesn't create any zips protected using this password.
avast! certainly doesn't move any files "randomly". It's possible that a virus-infected file was discovered and you instructed avast! to move it to its folder (but it's not the Temp\_avast4_ one, but rather "Program Files\ALWIL Software\avast4\data\moved).

Sorry to tell you, but that is EXACTLY what happened. It moved the files it could not read into a zipped file with a password. I know what i am saying. I jsut moved everything back into outlook only to find out my sent email folder is missing every email from 2004.... outstanding...

Well, I understood your first post such that avast! moved your files into password-protected ZIP archive.
avast! doesn't contain any code to create password-protected ZIP archives, so it's simply not possible.

If you moved the files yourself (as your last post implies) using some compression tool(?), then I don't understand the rest, I'm afraid.

IT. not ME. You still dont believe me... yeah, i must have compressed all outlook's dbx and some random files (which by the way where logged as "cannot read, file in use" in avast) all by myself to a file named unp163544433 in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrador\Local settings\Temp\_avast4_. I probably did it while sleeping even! and put on a password! incredible! I think i'd remember wouldn't I?

And now i found out, fantastically enough, it only moved half the sent emails folders. how awesome.
