Igor
Than Avast! is actually being short changed in the test results.
I hope he's been forwarded the windows version.

I believe that Jotti was provided with the Unix version as it is running on a unix server. So the windows version wouldn't be of much use.
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free 24.3.6108 (build 24.3.8975.762) UI 1.0.801/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

As it says on his scanner page "Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur."

If the Avast! linux version isn't as powerful as the windows version, than does any one know if the versions from the other vendors follow the same senario? If they do, then what does that say for the potency of the scans?

Thats why there isn't any Norton AV there. Symantec makes only Win versions.

In fact the Linux version does support RAR (at least it should), we're now working with Jotti to sort out the problem...

Thanks

About being able to see stats: as long as it's a handful of people, I don't mind :)

I've configured Avast the best I can. The configuration proposed by Alwil was exactly the thing I came up with, so.... if there's anything new, Alwil and I will certainly be able to sort it out :)

Thanks for your support.

Yeah,i miss statistics too. They were quiet handy and much more realistic then stupid static tests.

Hi Vlk, Jotti, @ll

can you confirm that the linux-avast that Jotti uses doesn't support CAB-unpacking/scanning ?
(probably because CAB is more used/native to WIN..?)

I uploaded a few Malware-CABs I got from HJT-Logs, and they weren't detected with Jotti's;
though when unpacking them myself and having them scanned, they were picked up ok..

I guess the missing CAB-Support in avast-Linux won't be changed soon, or may I hope ? ;)

I belive that CAB isn't so common on Linux systems since its a Microsoft developed compression algorithm...

Maybe I'm confused but what good does Jotti's MalwreScan do for those of us who use a windows operating system?
Please enlighten me. ???
