outlook and avast
« on: September 03, 2004, 03:12:41 AM »
Hi,

I just installed Avast! Now when I ran the Mail Protection Wizard, it said that the SMTP /POP3 would (or should be) be changed to 127.0.0.1.

I went into outlook after running the wizard, and when I go to tools->E-Mail accounts->View or Change e-mail accounts, there is only one SMTP/POP name (the one that I set up from my provider's info), and when I select it, the address set in SMTP/POP are the default given by my provider not 127.0.0.1.

Is this correct?
I run Windows XP SP2, and MS Outlook 2003 and Avast pro version 4.1 (trial).

Thanks.

If your using Outlook (not OE) then you select  the outlook/exchange module NOT internet mail.

baboune,

No, the settings apparently have not been properly configured.

The server address for both POP and SMTP should be set to 127.0.0.1 with the POP server name set to:
username#pop.isp.com (use the actual username and ISP info) and....
SMTP server name to username#smtp.isp.com

You can go into the Help file within the Avast Scanner and look up Manual configuration.  It will take you through it step by step.  It is not hard to do.

OR....You can shut down MS Outlook, and run the Mail Protection Wizard again to see if the MPW configures MS Outlook correctly.

Good luck.

No, you can't. Like Bob said, the MPW is only for Outlook Express and not MS Outlook (full), which uses the Outlook/Exchange plugin instead of Internet Mail Provider  ;)
