wdv, I agree. It's pointless to use the beta unless you're desparately waiting for one of its fixes. Cheers Vlk.

I'm really confused now... you guys fixed so many issues with 4.5.523 and released this beta version... eventually, this is gonna be final release one day. Now, updating is pointless ? How can it be pointless, when guy reported so many problems ? We advised him to update his firewall, he didn't even answer on that one. We advised him to take a look at forum topic (btw, started by you Vlk), just because he was the first one who came in here and asked for help...

It looks like the only one thing that is really POINTLESS is to try to help people. I'm sorry, but this makes me so mad... we are trying to help so many people in these forums, spending our precious time days and nights (when I say we, I mean users that are part of avast! technical support as well as Alwil guys), and we don't even get a feedback from users sometimes... ???  ::)

I'm sorry, but this makes me so mad...

Just take a deep breath.  :)

Updating my firewall is not an option because I can't register my free version (PC magazine CD) and have to pay for a new version.

The new version is still beta and I've always learned not to update to a beta if there are no problems (left!).
(if it aint broken don't fix it)
I hope that when this version is official it will be offered as a program-update for 4.5.523 (not every user is looking in forums for updates).

Well, I don't need a deep breath, it would be just nice to give us a feedback regarding your problem sometimes. I spent a lot of time in these forums, and sometimes I need deep breath, but not now... I've learned to live like this by now. I have rights to say what bothers me... You came here with question, and we are trying to help you... and not just you, there is more than 8100 registered users in here. So, think about that. They all need our help from time to time. Sometimes, we need help ourselves, but when we get some help, we give our feedback - is the problem solved or not...

That's OK, but you could  say that after pk offered you advice to update it to 1.4

Well, you came with problems, and new beta offered fixes for some issues. Anyway, there is no go back to 4.5.523, that's for sure. It was final, but still full o issues... Alwil had to take some steps to fix them, and they did it with beta. They are still waiting for people's feedback to see is everything works properly... if there are still some issues, of course that's why beta versions are, they will fix them too. But, at least, there is a chance to fix your existing problems that you mentioned.

It will be offered, but as I said, not as update for some previous version. It doesn't work that way. It will be offered as new version, not even as 4.5.529 any more. If 529 has issues, it has to be number higher than that... logically. You said, not every uses is looking in forums for updates... well, they should. These forums are free, 24/7 technical support is free. Alwil offers e-mail as well as phone support for free. What can one want more than this ? This is like heaven for every user. They can get any help in here if they want. We have all kind of experts in many areas... Of course, users have to push harder little bit and to give a try surfing for answers. Not everything can be served without some effort put in trying  ;) . If I need firmware for my CD-ROM, I'll go and look at their web site or forums, if I need to know more about some program updates for my Sygate firewall, I'll go and visit their forums for answers... same thing with avast! Why not use this great offer ?

Btw, I'm glad you said you fixed your problem. That's our goal in here. We want people to be happy and, feel more secure and believe in these guys and girls, of course in avast! too.

Cheers !

Isn't that the reason of the  program-update function for a program so important as a virusscanner where every second counts?  ???

Well, you should consider one more thing... other people with possible same problem, are looking at your thread, and they are expecting to see the solution. That's why help forums are for. They don't know that you are getting help over the e-mail, and they couldn't possibly know what was answered in pk's mail to you. Results should be always posted in here. If you start and open the thread, you should be the one to close it with results... The one shouldn't just ask for help and then disappear  ;)

Yes, but still, you have to inform yourself better sometimes, so you have to read and search. No one will inform you about let's say your firmware for your hardware firewall (that's a major security issue as well)... you have to visit those web sites and forums to find out about it...  ;) Can't just let things go with the flow... that's why you may have additional problems, 'cause you never read (not you, but in general) about them in forums... maybe someone already fixed that issue before.

In the 3rd reply in this thread, I wrote him what caused the problem and what he should do. I still believe, updating of avast (from 523 build?) couldn't fix his BSOD in norman driver. I dont remember we would do significant changes in aswTdi.sys

I just finished reading this thread and am a little confused. The advice given to you specifically stated to either Update your Firewall or Change to a different one or your problem will return.
Since you did neither, how can your problem be solved?

I don't know either but I will give some more background info:

I uninstalled some time before my first bluescreen Iolo System Mechanic.
After that I got several times a scandisk before Windows was starting up,  but the scandisk never found a error.
I did a complete scandisk with surfacescan (no errors) and after that I did a defragmentation.
Since that moment the scandisk problem is solved and my blue screen problem too.

I didn't mention that before because I dont's saw a link (sorry  :'().

Maybe it fixed something.  ???

The truth is that both problems are solved now.
And I'm verry happy now  :D

Just remember this thread when your problem returns. Unless you either update your firewall or change to a different one, Your problem will return.

Updated today to 4.5.549 and the old blue-screen problem returned.  :o

It has something to do with Avast.

Each update there is a new problem.  ???

Is it save to stick to an old version (4.1.501)?

Otherwise I have to look for another Free Virusscanner.

My start sequence is optimal jet: XP starts in 20 seconds.  ;D
(I'm using bootvis)
All aplications are careful implanted, some in automatic en some in system mode.
Don't want to mess it up.

I'm now using Avast 4.1.501, works great.
I will try every update in the future and when I've got problems I will return to 4.1.501

btw: where can I find a list with update fixes/changes?
