that is irrelevant.
Has online armor a problem with web shield or not?
Any conclusive tests done. 8)

I use Private Firewall and have encountered no problems. Of course I made the proper rules/exclusions in both avast and PF.  :)

The testing is done by the numerus members of this forum and many others who actualy use OA and avast together with no problems.

Sorry for resurrecting this old'ish thread but what is wrong with using Commodo?

I have used that firewall for ages with no problems (that I know of) and periodically test it via the grc site https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2.

As far as I'm aware it doesn't conflict with avast (may be wrong there). I have added avast as trusted path in commodo but not the other way round.

I'd like to hear some opinions

Much simplified answer.

Depends on what OS you are using, if win7, then the comodo firewall can't differentiate between what process is being redirected through the web shield proxy as it doesn't have support for the latest windows redirect API.

So if you have rules that try to block an application from connecting to the internet, if that connection is using http protocol it will be redirected through the web shield proxy (which is allowed in comodo) bypassing the rule to block it.

Ah, that's interesting.

Must get my behind over to the Commodo forum to see if there are any rumours of fixing that  :(

May I ask what your recommendation for a firewall are?

By all accounts the comodo forum has had a deafening silence if they are going to fix it and if so when. I believe they would rather you used their suite.

Mine is the Pro version, not free, but I have been using Outpost Firewall in many versions from Outpost 1.0 free. I bought a lifetime license for Outpost Firewall Pro many years ago at version 3.0 (a bargain at the time for the cost of a single years license). I have since bought another lifetime license for my other system.

But there are many free firewalls, even a free 7.0 version of Outpost Suite, a custom install is required not to install the antivirus module.
