Avast WebRep Crashes IE9 When it Loads XML File
« on: June 15, 2012, 04:54:43 AM »
Actually, WebRep crashes IE9. 100% smoking gun repeatable:

1) Click on XML file in Windows 7 (32-bit) Explorer
2) IE9 loads and crashes immediately. 100%. Every time.
3) Load IE9 from start menu
4) Select Options, Manage Add-ins
5) Disable Avast WebRep
6) Try again to click on XML file in Windows 7.  Problem gone. Click and load IE9 as many times as you want.
7) Renable webrep, problem comes back 100% repeatable.
8) Disable webrep, problem goes away 100% repeatable.

IE9 Version: 9.0.8112.16421
Windows 7 Professional SP1
Avast Internet Security 7.0.1426  (paid version)

(Not that big a problem for me because I don't rely much on WebRep. However, judging from similar posts, WebRep and MSXML do not get along well together. This seems to be a very reliable way for the Avast development team to recreate the problem and figure out what the problem is)

Didn't realize WebRep worked so well until it quit working. I performed a tech issue search and received absolute 1990's results, hideous. I then noticed WebRep wasn't active next to any of my results. WebRep replaces the trash results with mostly clean  results, it doesn't only rate the returns, it decides the outcome of your search. I need to fix my WebRep, something is wrong, it's not "active" but grayed out on my home-bar while still  enabled in Google utilities.

I started  having problems when I downloaded a Google App called SearchO.

The easiest way to access different search engines. SearchO makes it super-easy to switch among the most widely used search options, so that searching the same terms on different search engines is just one-click away.
No, your results include items for sale in a mini scrolling marquee. It's when I deleted this that web rep suddenly malfunctioned and now all my "top" results are consumption based SearchO-esque filth. Not good.
