AIS: just updated manually from the UI (RC), no issue at all, rebooted, all works fine ;) ... at least the components that I use.

... just on a side note, I already removed the BS and the Script Shield yesterday from the RC, as they just don't scan anything. Could be that the BS would wake up after a while, but as usual the Script Shield won't ... in Chrome. Chrome being my default browser on win 8 ... oh yeah, I remember now that I even tested the Script Shield with IE10 in Win8 ... nothing was scanned either.

Additional protection tab is missing after clean install of Avast Free 7.0.1451. How get to get it back?
Try running a repair of avast via the uninstall procedure.

I tried to update two boxes running Win 7 (64-bit) from 7.0.1426 to 7.0.1451 (Internet Security 7). Went through the GUI, and everything seemed fine. I rebooted, and both machines displayed the same error:

avast! will not be able to protect mail/news (error 10045).
Please check that the avast! service (AvastSvc.exe) is not blocked by your personal firewall.

The network connection is completely disabled. If I look in avast, it says "real-time shields: off" and "urgent: web shield off." Trying to turn them on does nothing. I did a clean uninstall of avast IS with the aswclear utility, and then installed using the full installer I downloaded from avast.com. Still getting the same error message and have no network access.

Currently have avast uninstalled on both machines in order to use the network.

Try switching ON 'Use fast checksums' in the Firewall 'expert settings' bit, then reboot.  I have the same issue with previous beta's, unticking 'fast checksums' made me lose all internet connectivity!

/edit - spelling  ???

Alas, this upgrade went no better than v6 to v7 in February. At 1st I thought I was home free. The upgrade via the GUI went okay, and showed the new version number on the summary screen. But it never asked for a reboot. That made me suspect something was wrong. I rebooted, windows started fine, I logged on fine, and the system hung. Rebooted again, same thing. Rebooted into safe mode, uninstalled avast and rebooted, ran the uninstall tool and rebooted, ran Ccleaner, and then ran clean install of new version. Then my firewall began to act squirrely, like it did after the upgrade from v6. Another reboot, and it looked like it was all good. I ran a quick scan, during which none of my programs would respond. After the scan, I rebooted again. We'll see how things shake out the next few days.
Update: Twice today my system froze during (2) different processes. 1, this morning as I was running a System Explorer scan, it froze in the middle of the scan and locked the system, forcing a reboot. 2, system locked again tonite while Winpatrol was verifying my Startup list and scheduled tasks, which was odd because everything it kept throwing on the screen had already been set months ago, except for avast emergency update. The error message on the screen before being forced to reboot was that my firewall closed in an unexpected manner. When I go to Admin Tools and click on System event viewer log it says it is corrupt and cannot open.

Update: Switched to AVG, Sunday, after 3 days of system lock ups, unresponsive programs, etc. Call it a crisis of confidence.

AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.17 GHz, 1.50Gb ram, xp sp3, avast 7.0.1451 free, Privatefirewall7, Mbam free, SaS free, Winpatrol.

Updated both computers, one with avast free and one  with avast Pro.

So far all seems well.

Cheers

Additional protection tab is missing after clean install of Avast Free 7.0.1451. How get to get it back?
Try running a repair of avast via the uninstall procedure.
I don't have any other problems, so I wouldn't like to do that. Is there any other solutions? Or maybe I just leave it.

Why..?? A repair is no reinstall, it's rather quick.

It was a very clean install, so I wonder why it would be broken. By the way, there is a screenshot.

Well, it's up to you what to do anyway. ;)
Sorry, the screenshot doesn't help.
