Is anyone out here with Windows XP (32-bit) SP3 OS? Couple of minutes ago i updated my Avast Free Edition into the new program update? It updates successfully and instructed to restart the computer so I restarted? Everything went well after that not until i faced a weird and annoying problem. It can't even open up Outlook Express, can't open up IE and Google Chrome, and even some of other programs! At last but not least Computer can't even up re-start up after restarting same thing applies to shutting down? Can't even shut it down? This problem didn't appear before I applied the new program update 7.0.1451

Yes, it must be in your exclusions if it's not triggering the sandbox.

Update for version 7.0.1451 went smooth as glass. 

On reboot, the last dialog box had 'Google Chrome' ticked on, unticked that, and no Chrome on system.

The same happened here. I uninstalled in safe mode (using aswClear) restarted and reinstalled the version 7.0.1426 and everything returned to work fine.

The problem with the autosandbox it's that it attempts to sandbox about 50% or more of the programs I run, which are all 100% completely safe, but still it closes them, it's incredibly annoying. I ended up disabling the autosandbox completely, it's just too disruptive.

Just set the auto-sandbox to Ask instead of Auto. Then you will have the option to run a file normally which will add it to the sandbox exclusions and that file will never be questioned again.

I have it set to "ask', still, it prompts me to sandbox just too many progs, that's why I ended up disabling it altogether...It can't be right that the sandbox finds about 80% of programs "unsafe", whatever the reason.

More likely to be your firewall (which is ?) blocking the new changed components of avast, namely avastSvc.exe, which requires internet access or the web shield and mail shield won't be able to connect (effectively blocking internet connection).

We know all that. Well, at least i do. What i still question about this feature is the fact that i've never in the entire time of its existance seen it actually positively identify anything during these analysis inside sandbox. Never ever. Thats what we are questioning the entire time.
You say its effective, but we don't see it ever identify anything.

If something is effective, users will quickly see that. But if you never did, how can you know it really does anything? I've seen behavior analyzers, heuristics and all sorts of other tech from competitors. And they always worked as advertised. But your sandboxed analysis don't seem to work at all.
Just my observation.

I have been using avast! AIS 7 since just after W8-CP came out.   I have three computers using avast! AIS 7 and I have yet to see any indication that there is an auto-sandbox and I have left the "auto-sandbox" settings on default: i.e., "auto" 

I have been following along but I must have missed the discussion of auto-sandbox and program installations. Does the auto-sandbox scan the program installation process?  If it does does, does it sandbox or halt the installation process if it finds a threat or potential threat during the installation process?  Or is all of this done by the "File Shield" and/or "Behavior Shield?"

Thank you for the reply.

This is very disappointing news that Outlook 2002 is not supported. I have looked on the website and could not find any information saying this though. Perhaps this should be stated for the benefits of customers?

Also, the Mail Shield does 'appear' to work in build 7.0.1426 - I have multiple email accounts, including 2 which use SSL and Avast 7 appears to scan emails (the mail shield counter increases, etc).

When you say that Avast does not support Outlook 2002, in what way does it not work?

Updated via update option through Avast UI. Upon restart, no internet. This happened with the last time I tried updating the program through Avast UI as well. For whatever reason, Avast will break the internet for me unless I do a clean install. Will try to do clean install now and hopefully everything will work.

You must be using a lot of obscure things then. Mine has only wanted to sandbox a few things in the past but those same things, IMGBurn for example, are not detected any more even without having an exclusion.

I just upgraded the free version on the Vista machine. I did it through the GUI and it was kind of wonky with much slower boot times and IE9 not opening until I disabled all the Shields. After IE did open , I enabled the shields and it worked but then CCleaner would not open until I disabled the shields again. The machine still had the old Alwil Software directory structure so I decided to do a full clean reinstall. After a clean install, bootup is still slower than before but everything opens properly. The emergency updater task , however does not show anywhere. Not in CCleaner, Autoruns, or even the Vista Task Scheduler. I don't think it was ever created.
